Short version: this site sets no cookies and stores nothing about you. That is why it does not ask you about cookies.
Why there is no cookie banner
Cookie banners exist because a site wants to store something on your device. This one does not, so there is nothing to ask about. Being asked for permission to do something that is not happening is just an interruption.
The one thing that is measured
Google Analytics (G-436HQ500C2) counts page views, so it is possible to tell which write-ups people actually read.
It runs in what Google calls consent mode, with every permission — analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalisation — set to denied, and nothing on this site can change that. In that state it sets no cookie and stores no identifier. It records that a page was viewed, roughly where in the world from, and what linked to it. It cannot tell that two visits were the same person, which is the deliberate cost of not asking you for anything.
If you copy a code block, that is recorded as an event — the language and the page, nothing about you. On a site made mostly of shell and Terraform snippets, it is the one useful signal that a post was actually used.
No advertising
There are no ads on this site and no advertising scripts of any kind. There were until this rebuild — and, as it turned out, an ad account that had been dormant for years while its tracking code kept loading on every page.
What this site does not do
- No cookies. Not for analytics, not for advertising, not for preferences.
- No account, no login, no newsletter, no form that asks you for anything.
- No comments, so nothing you write is stored.
- No fonts, scripts or images loaded from anyone other than the analytics tag above.
- No tracking pixel, no session recording, no A/B test, no fingerprinting.
Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage
under tts-theme. That is not a cookie, it is never sent
anywhere, and it exists only on the device you chose it on.
Until this rebuild the site loaded Google Analytics, Google AdSense and a LinkedIn Insight conversion tag on every page, with no consent dialog of any kind and no privacy policy. All three are gone or defanged: the LinkedIn tag was removed outright, the ad script is no longer loaded at all, and analytics now runs without cookies.
Where the site is hosted
Static files on Amazon S3, served through Amazon CloudFront from a London region. Requests reach Amazon's servers, as they must for any page to load at all.
